Fire Fighters Creed
When I'm called to duty god
wherever flames my rage
give me strength to save a life
whatever be it's age
Help me to embrace a little child
before it is too late
or save an older person from
the horror of that fate
Enable me to be alert
to hear the weakest shout
and quickly and efficiently
to put the fire out
I want to fill my calling and
to give the best in me
to guard my neighbor and
protect his property
And if according to your will
I have to lose my life
bless with your protecting hand
my children and my wife

WE ARE ON THE CLOCK 24 HOURS, 7 DAYS A WEEK, AND 365 DAYS PER YEAR

Central has 52 active firefighters. To remain active in the fire department firefighters are required to have 36 hours of training per year.  Our department also consist of first responders that assist EMS with some medical emergencies.   First responders are required to have a additonal 24 hours of training on top of the 36 hours to keep their certifications current.  In order for our firefighters to do any interior firefighting, they must attend a course of training classes. Our goal is to provide protection and awareness to our community.  Also, in being a volunteer department, we must keep up the conditions and maintance of the fire station, fire trucks, and all fire hydrants in our district.

What Being a Volunteer is All About

In a volunteer fire department, the firefighters respond from all round the community or where ever one might be.  Some must respond to the station to get a fire truck.  But, how do they know when they have a emergancey call?  Firefighters carry a small one-way recieving radio called a pager.  Iredell ecom (emergancy communitcations) sets off their tone which makes their pager start beeping.  Then they dispatch them to the call telling them where and what kind of call they are responding to.  Some call may even come in the middle of the night when they are lying in bed. That's why the fire department is called a volunteer department.
